
I am an Assistant Professor in the College of Arts and Media at Tongji University, Shanghai. I received my PhD in cinema and media studies from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I hold a BA in literature and an MA in art theory from Peking University.
I am interested in Chinese cinema, media, and visual culture in East Asia, with a special focus on animation and cartoons. Now I am working on my first book project based on my PhD dissertation "Cinema of Elasticity: Cartoon Visuality in Chinese Film". My other projects include a study of Chinese science education films and research on the materiality of modern Chinese cartoons/manhua.
My publications can be found in Twentieth-Century China, Cultural and Social History, Animation: An Interdisciplinary Journal , Mechademia: Second Arc, Encyclopedia of Animation Studies (Bloomsbury reference, forthcoming in 2024), animationstudies 2.0, Association for Chinese Animation Studies, and Chinese journals Film Art and Journal of Beijing Film Academy.
